As we all know, websites are an essential marketing tool. In this day and age, your website has the power to either make or break your business’s success. Anyone who manages their own website knows that a glitch or mistake of any sort feels like a zombie apocalypse. Vice-versa, as a viewer there is nothing that makes our jaw clench and our guts churn more than coming across a website that is difficult to navigate and visually unappealing.
There is nothing worse than losing business because your website did not make the cut. I know many of you might think that to have a good website you have to be “techy”. Many times, this is wrong. Some of the most basic elements to what make a successful site are very avoidable. Here are some basic (yet fatal) mistakes to avoid when working on your website.
-
Grammar and spelling mistakes
Like I said, basic. It might come as a painful surprise, but grammar and spelling mistakes are still a re-occurring phenomenon. Please edit your content, check for typos and get a second opinion. If you are not sure about a word, don’t use it. This might seem like common sense but at the end of the day we’re human and mistakes happen. Unfortunately when they happen on your website your mistake is seen by a handful of potential customers who probably won’t be impressed if you don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re”.

Uploading horrible property photos
Yes, it’s important to read instructions carefully and make sure that your images meet all the size restrictions specific to your template. It is very noticeable when a photo is too large or too small. But going back to even more basic details, if the photo of the property your are selling is aesthetically questionable, please don’t use it. Ask yourself “Will this photo help me sell this property?” If the answer is no, use another photo. Websites are purely visual platforms, and the photo must do your property justice. If this means getting a better camera, then so be it.

Keeping stock content on your website
Like an actual home, your website requires, maintenance and dedication. Try to keep it as up to date as possible, with fresh and unique content that talks about you and your business. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a website that has outdated and stock information. The more time you spend on it, the more time other people will spend on it as well.

Too much clutter
Short and sweet and to the point, that is what people look for in a site. A page that requires a lot of reading and/or scrolling is seen as a time commitment most people aren’t willing to take. People usually go to the internet for answers. If their answer is hidden somewhere in-between a clutter of information they don’t need, chances are they will move on to the next. Decide what you want your focal point to be, make your contact information readily available and offer simple and intuitive navigation options. The more user friendly the site, the higher chance an individual will spend more time on it.
Let the vampires, werewolves and dressed up teenagers, be the only thing to scare you this weekend by avoiding these basic mistakes.

Eating grandpa!Even though it looks funny, it’s a serious issue. Spelling mistakes and postings of properties should be done at utmost care. Thanks for sharing this post.
