Ubertor made it’s way down the mountain to visit and tour the Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC) Headquarters in Vancouver – an event put on by Whistler’s Chamber of Commerce. The tour and info session was hosted by MEC’s own CEO, David Labistour. This was by far one of the best tours our team has been on. The session began with David explaining MEC’s story from it’s beginnings to where it is now, and how the company has adapted throughout the years keeping their consumers and quality of their product as their focal point of attention.

What struck me the most, and what we also try to do here at Ubertor is building and fostering a healthy and productive work culture for our staff. David explained that without MEC’s strong internal culture a lot of the goals MEC has hit throughout the years wouldn’t have been possible without their internal team all on the same page. “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”. A memorable quote David stated during his talk.

David toured us through their office introducing us to each of their departments: textiles, design, testing, online products – and even showed us a room where they had stacks of kayaks, canoes, and other floatation type devices any of their staff could rent out for free. All in all, the entire tour was a success, and an inspiration to follow.
