Yesterday was a busy day. We ran 2 training sessions on the same day as the RET Meetup so that our out of town agents could make a day out of it. It was great to see such a strong turnout.
The morning started with one of our regular training sessions at 10:00am. We added a new session yesterday called Study Hall. The Study Hall was a presentation on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) done by Derek who is one of our lead programmers. It was an educational session on what CSS is, how it works, the benefits, etc. All in all it was a great presentation. After Derek we had a open format for agents to ask specific questions about their websites. It was a great opportunity to work with agents on specific ideas or questions that they have. We discussed and helped setup Feedburner, RSS Readers, Google Sitemaps, Google Analytics, plus much more. It was a success and we will be running it again.
The Vancouver Real Estate Tech December Meetup at 6:00pm last night was a big success. There was a record turnout and some great presentations.
On short notice we adjusted the agenda and invited my brother Michael Jagger of Provident Security to speak. He talked about common security problems and ways to counter act them. Plus showed so pictures of some common break ins and what could be done to 5 Minute Proof a home. Then he discussed his success with his blog and how it has effected his business.
Next, myself and Mitch Jarvi from Reachd.com did 2 website reviews where we brought a couple of sites up onto the big screen so that we could review what the agent was doing with their site and any feedback either of us had or the group had. – Thanks to Jack Ying and Mike Giesbrecht for volenteering their sites –
Lastly, we had Gordon Lau from the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver discuss copyrights and how CREA works to protect the copyrights that they have. Gordan had some great information about what domain names you can’t register and how certain terms need to be phrased on your website.
We also had a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Vancouver Food Bank. The auction generated over $600.00 in donations for the Food Bank and included a Nintendo Wii, vOpenHouse.ca Video Tours, a customized Ubertor website from RealStock.ca, 2 One Hour Coaching Sessions from Dara at RealtySupport.ca and a last minute entry of 2 hours of secretarial work.
We also collected cash and food donations for the Food Bank. We have quite a few boxes full of food. A big thank you to Milan’s Bistro for letting us use his yaletown restaurant for our sessions all day today and a big thank you for his food donation. Milan filled 2 of the boxes himself with supplies.
Here are some pictures of last nights Meetup thanks to RealStock.ca:
