I was just checking my voicemail and received a message from a Vancouver College grad that is currently a Realtor and a client of ours. Daniel Lavery was surfing around the internet and found his way onto the Vancouver College Alumni Website and saw that I was a grad as I am currently on the Alumni Association Executive Board so therefor listed on their website.
Kind of a small world. Actually, within Combustion Ubertor, we have many VC Grads. My business partner, Michael Stephenson is also a grad as well as a few of our sales and customer service teams. I think right now we have 7 VC Grads on staff.
This brings me to my point of writing this in my blog… it is aways a good idea to list some key facts about you on your website and blog as you never know who can connect you to what. If I was a Realtor, I would somehow put this:
Birth Place: Hong Kong
Elementary School: St. Boniface, Calgary
Middle School: Strathcona Tweedsmuir, Calgary
High school: Vancouver College, Vancouver
Post Secondary: BCIT Venture Program, Vancouver
The reason? to connect you to your potential clients, leads, existing clients, etc. A connection is what makes a sale easier. A connection is what makes you different than your competitors. A connection is what gives you an advantage. (I’m sure after this post I will receive an email stating “I did not know you were a… or I had no idea you were born in Hong Kong”)
So don’t be afraid to add more details to your website and your blog about who you are, what you do, where you came from before real estate as it could be the thing that gets you a new listing. Plus you could also come up in Google under those terms. As an example, if you Google the term “BCIT Venture Program” you will see my blog come up on the first page. 🙂
